How to Desalt Jerk Beef | Recipe 101

 

Jerk Beef (carne seca) is a dry, salty, cured meat product obtained from a fresh cut of Canadian beef, dried by salt, during a period of time, to develop aroma and flavor.

You will learn how to desalt the jerk beef to use on your recipes.

There are 2 ways to desalt the jerk beef. The normal that preserves de meat and let you use in more recipes and the quick way that we use the oven to desalt it.

Regular | Traditional way

Add the jerk beef in a bowl, cover with water.

Place the bowl in the refrigerator and change the water every 4 hours 3 times.

That's it. After that time your jerk beef will be desalted and ready to be used in any recipe.

 

Quicker way

You just bought the jerk beef and need to use right away? This will be the best option.

Add the jerk beef in a pan, cover with water and cook for about 15 minutes on medium heat.

After that time, change the water and cook again for about 10 minutes. Change the water 3 times. 

Taste the meat and if it's still salted, cook one more time.
